  Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Expresses his Support for the UN Envoy to Yemen

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, expressed his support for the tireless efforts of the UN Secretary-General's envoy to the Republic of Yemen, Martin Griffiths to resume Yemeni peace talks; And his hope that the Houthi Group will respond to those efforts, reconsider their position prioritizing the supreme interests of Yemen and its people, and not fail to participate in future consultations.

During his phone call with UN envoy Martin Griffiths, HE the Secretary-General said that the upcoming Yemeni peace talks represent a good opportunity for serious dialogue between the Yemeni parties to end the war in Yemen and the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people, and reach a political settlement;  Assuring the GCC keenness to stop the bloodshed, maintain Yemen's security,  stability and continuing the efforts in building, reconstructing and developing the Yemeni State for the interest of the Yemeni people.

The Secretary-General called on the international community and concerned countries to support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's envoy to Yemen, stressing the importance of reaching a political solution according to Gulf initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and Security Council resolution 2216, to maintain Yemen's security, stability, and provide aid for the Yemeni people to alleviate their sufferings.
