  The GCC and the People's Republic of China Discuss Means of Cooperation

The Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek, met on Wednesday, 30 January 2019, at the GCC headquarters, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Yemen, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed means of cooperation between both sides in dealing with the latest developments in Yemen, and the efforts of the United Nations to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on the three references; the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC), and the Security Council resolution 2216; in addition to discussing the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement regarding Hodeidah and its three ports, Taiz Agreement, and the mechanism for the exchange of prisoners and detainees.

The Assistant Secretary General reviewed the efforts exerted by the GCC states, and their effective role in supporting the political solution in Yemen based on the three references, as well as, the humanitarian and developmental aid they provide.

They also exchanged views on the best ways to deliver development, reconstruction and relief assistance to Yemen, and enhance its stability. The Assistant Secretary General referred to the GCC Supreme Council decision on its role in the development and rehabilitation of the Yemeni economy and facilitates its integration with the Gulf economy, enhancing the reconstruction and recovery of the Yemeni economy.

The delegation of the People's Republic of China commended the efforts exerted by the GCC states supporting the political process in Yemen, and providing humanitarian and developmental aid to the Yemeni people. They expressed their support for the efforts restoring stability and reconstruction in Yemen; praising the GCC-China joint cooperation on many issues.
