  The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council patronizes the Science and Technology Diplomacy International Forum

Under the patronage of HH the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, started on Monday, 11 February 2019, the Science and Technology Diplomacy International Forum, organized by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with a number of competent ministries and academic institutions, and the  participation of international organizations, such as; the International Science and Technology Advice Network, The International Network for Government Science Advice, and The International Science Council.
In his opening speech, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, chairman of the current session of the GCC Supreme Council, for his sincere efforts enhancing growth and progress in the Sultanate, and his keenness to support the GCC joint cooperation towards greater integration and interdependence. As well as, Expressing his thanks and appreciation to HE Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, chairman of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council, for his kind invitation to attend the Ocean Economy & Future Technology Conference, and patronize the Science and Technology Diplomacy International Forum.
The Secretary-General stated that the important objectives of this conference are to provide an interactive platform for experts, political leaders and bodies to explore the ocean-based economy, and discuss potential business opportunities in the marine industries; as well as, issues related to science and technology diplomacy and its role in creating global trade opportunities and promoting the global ocean-based economy.
Dr. al-Zayani added that this pioneering initiative of the Sultanate in organizing such an important and distinguished international conference is fully in sync with its historical record of open cultural relations with nations, and civilizations, and its important geographical location in this vital region of the world.
The Secretary-General stressed that this forum is an opportunity to develop and discuss various issues related to the global ocean-based economy, logistics, and emerging business opportunities in ocean science, including; fisheries, marine energy, logistics and shipping, and manufacturing and mining.
In his speech, Dr. Yousef bin Abdullah al-Balushi, Director of Transfer of Science, Knowledge and Technology Office at the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, head of the Supreme Organizing Committee, expressed his thanks and appreciation to Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani for attending and patronizing this forum, and to the international organizations for their contribution.
He added that the forum aims to strengthen communications between scientists and politicians to promote science and technology diplomacy; pointing out that the Sultanate seeks to enhance the technology of the future and its role in achieving Sustainable development, world peace, closer communication with international partners, and intensified cooperation among countries regarding the global ocean-based economy.
